The Play ( revised a little)

The Play…..

To take the stage
Start the show
To stand in the crowd
You can never know

Start your lines
Wear the dress
Gazing in anguish
It was my request

Walking the stage
 Hit your mark
The first Act over
Theater goes dark

Curtain drawn open
To the crowds delight
Will he get his kiss
By the end of night

This play has been running
For many many years
In joy or regret
Will I shed my tears

Curtain goes down
Act Two now ends
Will  I be there
When Act Three begins

Was I the writer
That pushed the play
When climax hits
Will I be able to stay

A happy ending
What the crowd demands
Actors take their bow
At audience command

After the show
Await the review
Will he be the one
To hand the rose to you

With a playwright's prayer
I'll hope it runs long
That the actors are happy
Cause the show must go on.....
